Psychological treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder: A single case study of a UK police officer
A single case study design is used to describe how a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR therapy was successfully used to treat a police officer.
Article Abstract
“A single case study design is used to describe how a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and eye movement desensitisation reprocessing therapy was successfully used to treat a police officer. This single case study describes the treatment of an UK police officer who developed chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the accidental shooting of a colleague. A brief historical account of PTSD is given, along with a short review of the controlled trials of psychological treatments, with special reference to PTSD within police officers. The treatment of a police officer using a single case study design is used to describe how a combination of cognitivebehavioural therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitisation reprocessing therapy (EMDR) was used successfully to treat this patient. There are also the accompanying clinical measures reproduced at pre, mid, post, and up to three-months follow-up.”
