Dr. Linda J. Pitts passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in her cherished home in McKinney, Texas. Born on October 21, 1945, in Moline, Iowa, Linda was a beloved wife, mother, and Nana, anchored in her commitment to family. She radiated warmth and compassion, touching the lives of everyone she encountered. She was an EMDRIA™ member and became an EMDRIA Certified Therapist™ in 2013. Dr. Pitts is survived by her husband, three daughters, five grandchildren, and two sons-in-law.
Her work and career reflected her nature: warm, empathetic, generous, sincere, and honest. She was a dedicated Psychologist and avid supporter of EMDR. After earning her doctorate in psychology in 1994, she worked in private practice, serving individuals, couples, and families, with a focus on PTSD and trauma, as well as military and veterans. Dr. Pitts was a firm believer in people and their ability to grow and work through adversity. After completing EMDR training in 1998, she consistently used EMDR, citing it as the most essential therapeutic modality in her practice throughout her career. She was always eager to attend EMDRIA Conferences and continuing education, returning from them excited to share and integrate any new research and advances presented (and also to sport the latest EMDRIA gear, like the first “Go With That” T-shirt). She inspired many, including her youngest daughter, who often traveled with her to EMDRIA conferences and events. Dr. Alexis Zornitta, now an EMDRIA member and EMDRIA Certified Therapist, is grateful to have a mother who could pave such a strong and meaningful path to follow.
As a psychologist and therapist, Dr. Pitts’s compassion touched countless lives, including the many military veterans she counseled. Along with devoting her career to helping others navigate their challenges, she extended kindness and generosity to anyone fortunate enough to know her. Those who knew her will remember her warm smile, nurturance, and unwavering support.
Dr. Pitt’s witty, playful, and down-to-earth spirit will also be remembered. She brought laughter and joy into every gathering, lighting up rooms with her smile, dancing, singing, and warm heart. Her zest for life created memorable family moments and forged bonds that will endure.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) to celebrate Dr. Pitts’s work with veterans and honor her legacy of kindness and compassion. Her official obituary can be found here.
