The Wyoming Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers presented EMDRIA member Jan Schaad, LCSW with the 2023 “barrier-breaking” award for Greatest Contribution to Social Work Practice. Schaad became certified as an EMDR trainer under Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., the originator and developer of EMDR. Schaad is an EMDR Certified Therapist, Consultant, and Trainer. EMDRIA members Lynn Smith, LCSW and Bonnie Barclay, LCSW responded to the Covenant School shooting by organizing a network of therapists through their East Tennessee Trauma Recovery Network to provide trauma therapy to first responders who helped at the scene. They were both interviewed about the effect a shooting can have on first responders in this KNOX News coverage “How Knoxville therapists are helping Covenant School responders process unthinkable trauma.”
