EMDRIA members Ashley Neveu, RP and Stephanie Moffit, RSW are highlighted in this Ontario based article as they join forces to offer more therapy resources to their community, including EMDR therapy as a focus. Neveu states about EMDR: “It helps bring down the emotional intensity of past experience, allowing the brain to go back and reprocess those memories more adaptively.”
EMDR therapy is highlighted as trauma treatment of choice for first responders in EMS1 article “EMDR Therapy for First Responders.”
KHQA news brief out of Illinois shares how with a state budget increase for organizations serving sexual assault victims, there are plans to expand therapy services, stating that EMDR therapy “is really top of our list because that has been something that is effective for people who have been affected and traumatized, in particular survivors of sexual violence.”
EMDR is offered as a way to heal after financial abuse in the goop article “I Survived Financial Abuse – Here’s What I Think Everyone Should Know.” Of EMDR, the article states “It gives you a way to look at how you feel about yourself and how you process emotion as a result of trauma… for example [from] ‘I’m weak because I was abused’ to ‘I am now strong and aware.'”
EMDRIA member Jane Fineberg, LCSW is highlighted in this regional Colorado publication article, “JF Counseling Voted Best Mental Health Provider in Summit County,” mentioning EMDR therapy as a treatment modality.
EMDR therapy is part of the investment in this Connecticut based article reporting on federal funds expanding hospital health care: “This $1.5 million in federal funding will help survivors access the comprehensive, trauma-informed care they need to heal and rebuild their lives.”
OpenPR article “Post-Disaster Trauma Care is Entering Mainstream Health Systems” addresses the trauma-informed reality that disasters not only destroy belongings and property, “they can also rearrange the nervous system of a whole community.”
EMDR therapy is featured in this City of Austin press release sharing that the Austin Texas Police Department has allotted $50,000 to train local mental health counselors in EMDR therapy with EMDRIA Member and Trainer Rick Levinson, LCSW, so that those counselors can provide therapy for survivors of trauma as referred by the APD Victim Services department.
Sexual assault survivor Leah Heming bravely tells her story to raise awareness in this WGEM Illinois news story. EMDR therapy was part of her process: “For Heming, EMDR has helped her with the fear and emotions surrounding her childhood. She said she doesn’t have to live in fight or flight anymore.”
EMDR therapy helped an adult survivor process the traumatic childhood events she experienced as reported in “Child Abuse Prevention Month – How to Protect Our Children,” a biographical personal story about domestic violence and child abuse by Gina Cathcart.
Independent article “The anniversary of my best friend’s death hits me every year. Experts say these coping mechanisms may help” shares a first hand story normalizing the ‘anniversary’ effect of loss, and different approaches to working with grief, including EMDR therapy.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is working to provide critical mental health support to citizens affected by the ongoing war and political violence, as reported in “Ukraine’s MIA Psychological Service: Over 14,000 People Assisted.” The article mentions that psychologists received training “grounded in evidence-based… methods,” including EMDR therapy, which “is crucial for aiding individuals who have experienced traumatic events.”
News9 out of Oklahoma reports a news segment on how a growing number of therapists are using evidence-based EMDR to help patients process traumatic memories and PTSD, naming effectiveness for anxiety, depression, grief, panic attacks, and addictions.
