Dissociative Experiences Scale – II
The Dissociative Experiences Scale is a self-assessment tool useful in determining whether a full clinical interview might be useful.
Screening Tool Description
“The Dissociative Experiences Scale measures a wide variety of types of dissociation, including both problematic dissociative experiences, and normal dissociative experiences (e.g., day-dreaming). It is a screening tool for dissociative disorders, especially Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder) and Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (now known as Other Specified Dissociative Disorder). People with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder also score highly on it. This is the second version of the scale, and it is easier to score than the original version. The Dissociative Experiences Scale is a self-assessment tool which is useful in determining whether a full clinical interview for dissociative disorders might be useful, and it has been translated into many different languages. The scale’s authors have given permission for it to be copied for research or clinical use.”
