Editorial: Considering Mechanisms of Action in EMDR
As a profession we are still struggling to determine what makes therapy work and what creates change. What are the mechanisms of action?
Article Abstract
“Psychotherapy is a lot like making bread. The outcome depends on both the ingredients and the mechanisms. You can make banana bread, or sourdough bread, or doughnuts. You can use yeast, or baking powder, or no leavening at all. But psychotherapy is a lot more complicated. As a profession we are still struggling to determine what makes therapy work and what creates change. What are the mechanisms of action?”
